Class 09: Packages and containers
Class 10: Clocks and watches, jewelry

Class 11: Articles of adornment
Class 12: Means of transport
Class 14: Recording, communication, information

What Does a Design Protect?

A registered design protects the visual appearance of a product, including its:

  • Shape: The three-dimensional form
  • Configuration: The arrangement of elements
  • Pattern: Decorative elements on the surface
  • Ornamentation: Aesthetic features

Design protection lasts for 5 years initially and can be renewed for up to 10 years total in Australia.

Note: Designs protect appearance, not function. For functional aspects, consider patent protection.
